Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt
"Operation Toofan the Narco Hunt" is a new project launched by the Kerala Police to root out the drug mafia. The project is being implemented jointly with the cooperation of the Education, Health and Excise departments. The state-level inauguration of the project was performed by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan at a function held at Cotton Hill School in Thiruvananthapuram on June 2, 2026.
Through this project, Kerala Police aims to take strong legal action against drug mafias and build a massive public resistance with public participation. This project has been conceived in a manner suitable for the digital age to combat the rapid spread of synthetic drugs. This mission aims to provide a strict warning of the law to drug mafias and also ensure a complete sense of security for the common people.
Joint plans will be formulated in consultation with the police chiefs of other South Indian states to crack down on the inter-state drug mafia. An extensive digital surveillance system will be set up, including apps and WhatsApp chatbots, to anonymously share information about drug trafficking. The police will ensure the protection of those who provide confidential information.
